Floods and heavy rain events have had an enormous impact on our already battling rural roads.
To be able to address some of this impact, the elected Councillors set aside $7.5 million from the 2022-23 budget specifically for a local road repair program.
The sections of road identified for repair were those that regularly result in requests from the community for repair, needed excessive maintenance and were in a condition that could be repaired (rather than requiring full reconstruction). The aim was to bring those roads up to a condition where the need for repeat maintenance could be minimised.
With careful budgeting, over 35 roads or road sections were completed in the 2022/2023 financial year, under this program. This was in addition to roadwork undertaken under the annual roadworks plan.
