A new rising main and sewer pump station is scheduled to be built between Taree sewer pump station 12 at Cundletown and the Dawson Sewage Treatment Plant. This will divert sewage from Cundletown away from the Taree sewer network, relieving pressure on the network and allowing for future development in Taree.
Due to the current configuration of the Taree sewer network, sewage from Cundletown has to be pumped across the Dawson River Bridge and through the network to reach Dawson Sewage Treatment Plant. This significantly increases the volume of sewage the network has to process, which increases the risk of sewer overflows occurring in Chatham and Taree.
The volume of sewage currently going into the network also restricts future development in Taree and surrounding areas, as the network does not have the capacity to process additional sewage.
A rising main and sewer pump station will be built between Taree sewer pump station 12 and the Dawson Sewage Treatment Plant. As a result, sewage from Cundletown will be pumped directly to the treatment plant, rather than through the Taree sewer network.
Pumping sewage from Cundletown directly to the Dawson Sewage Treatment Plant will reduce the risk of sewer overflows occurring in Chatham and Taree, mitigating the threat to the natural environment. It will also increase the capacity of the Taree sewer network to accommodate new development in Taree and surrounding areas, which will increase housing availability and promote economic growth.
