Details of the project
Work began in June 2023 to improve the performance of Harrington Sewer Pump Station 09.
A new odour control unit has been installed beside the existing pump station building on Faith Court. The new odour control unit treats the air being pumped through the pump station in a two-stage process.
First, the air passes through a biofilter, which removes fats, grease and the majority of odours. The air then passes through an activated carbon unit, which is designed to filter out any remaining odours. The treated air is then released through a ventilation stack on the side of the unit.
Construction of the unit was completed in two stages. First, a concrete slab was built, and then the prefabricated odour control unit was installed and commissioned. The odour control unit was constructed offsite in sections and installed onsite to minimise disruption to residents.
Onsite maintenance will continue as normal now the unit has been installed and there is no additional noise from the pump station. The unit has minimal visual impact on residents.
