Planning is underway to construct a new rising main from Tea Gardens to the Hawks Nest sewage treatment plant. The rising main will relieve pressure on the existing sewer network and significantly reduce the risk of sewer overflows occurring during wet weather events.

The Tea Gardens sewer network is approaching capacity in terms of the volume of sewage it can process and as a result sewer overflows have been known to occur during wet weather events.

Considerable residential development is also projected to occur in Tea Gardens over the next decade, which is likely to put greater pressure on the network.

A new rising main will be constructed from Tea Gardens to the Hawks Nest sewage treatment plant, covering a distance of around five kilometres.

A new transfer pump station will also be constructed at the existing vacuum sewer station off Spinifex Way and several existing mains will be redirected to this station in order to distribute sewage through the new rising main.

The project will relieve pressure on the existing sewer network and significantly reduce the risk of sewer overflows occurring during wet weather events. It will also increase the capacity of the sewer network without having to upgrade existing infrastructure and allow for population growth and increased development in the area.
