Overview

The Plan of Management outlines how the North Tuncurry Sports Complex will be used and managed into the future and will be used as a tool to attract funding for upgrades to the area.

The plan proposes new developments for the North Tuncurry Sports Area that are based on information gathered during the development of the draft Plan with consultation of major user groups and organisations.

Background

The Plan of Management draws on a master plan completed by the former Great Lakes Council for the area in 2001, and a discussion paper and plan drafted in 2010.

These earlier considerations by the former Council acknowledge the significance of this sports centre as a unique attraction to the region, enhancing the active lifestyle of the community, as well as providing for the needs of a growing population.

The North Tuncurry Sports Area encompasses the popular sports fields of the North Tuncurry Regional Sports Complex. The sports complex contains Harry Elliott Oval, the Western League Field and the Peter Barclay Sports Fields.

It also includes the dog exercising and competition area within Bickford Park. The Sports Club and Tennis Club are not included in the Plan of Management for the North Tuncurry Sports Area.

EXHIBITION PERIOD

The draft plan of management was on public exhibtion for community feedback from 28 September to 2 November 2023 where we recieved 15 formal submissions.

The feedback received from the community was considered and some changes were made to the draft document.

The plan of management was then adopted by the elected Council at the 13 December 2023 Ordinary Meeting.

COMMUNITY FEEDBACK

The feedback from the submissions primarily related to the indicative location of the public toilet block on the western side of Bickford Park. The submissions noted that this would have a negative effect on the neighbouring houses and suggested other locations.

Changes in response to submissions

The indicative location of the amenities block has been removed from the final Plan of Management, noting that a consultation process will be conducted during the future design phase of the facility to identify the best location.
