Old Bar Manning Point Coastal Management Program Focus Group

The Old Bar Manning Point Coastal Management Program sets the long-term strategy for the management of the coast between Crowdy Head and Wallabi Point.

We are seeking nominations from community members to join a focus group that will provide important input in the Old Bar Manning Point Coastal Management Program.

We encourage community members from Old Bar, Wallabi Point, Mitchells Island, Manning Point, Harrington, Crowdy Head, Taree and Wingham who have an interest in the future of their local coastal area to apply.

We have identified several coastal management issues and the actions required to address these issues.

We want the community’s help to evaluate these actions and options.

Participating in this group will give you a chance to have your say, to represent your community and play a direct role in supporting the future management of our coastline.

To express an interest in joining the reference group, please complete this registration form below to tell us more about you, your experience and why you would like to be a part of this important process.

As a member of the focus group, you will:

  • receive detailed information about the management options (around 100 pages total)
  • attend a two-hour meeting in Taree (this involves a one-hour presentation of the management options and time for you to assess each option against set criteria).

We prefer that you complete the nomination form online, however a hardcopy version can be:

Dropped into any Council office

Posted to MidCoast Council, PO Box 482 Taree NSW 2430

Scanned and emailed to council@midcoast.nsw.gov.au

Nominations close 4.30pm Wednesday 8 May 2024. All nominations will be considered to determine the membership. Once a decision has been made, we will be in contact to advise the outcome.

Each nominee should:

  • have general knowledge or interest about the coast from Crowdy Head to Wallabi Point.
  • be available to attend a 2-hour meeting, mid-week between 1 and 3pm.
  • Be able to read around 100 pages of summary text before the meeting.

You are ineligible to apply if:

  • You are already on the Community Reference Group for the Old Bar Manning Point Coastal Management Program
  • You are a member of, or represent a specific interest group that has financial interests in this area of the coast.
  • You have previously been banned from a Council space/meeting.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and live, the Gathang-speaking people and pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who now reside in the MidCoast Council area. We extend our respect to elders past and present, and to all future cultural-knowledge holders.
