Aim of the policy

This policy enables the reasonable and appropriate reimbursement of expenses and provision of facilities to Councillors to help them undertake their civic duties.

It ensures accountability and transparency and seeks to align Councillor expenses and facilities with community expectations. Councillors must not obtain private or political benefit from any expense or facility provided under this policy.

Please note: The draft policy has been based on the the Office of Local Government Model Policy with any changes highlighted in yellow or green as per below

  • The items highlighted in yellow are considered best practice from the Model Policy
  • The items in red text are considered suggestions from the Model Policy
  • The items highlighted in green are additional to the Model Policy
  • Any wording from the Model Policy which was not considered applicable to MidCoast Council or changed from Council’s previous policy has been taken out.
