What a great time to slow things down as we welcome cooler temperatures, shorter days, and sparkling landscapes tinged with yellows, reds and golds.

MidCoast Mania Quiz

How well do you know your fellow MidCoast’ers? This quiz is all about us and the people that make our communities so great.

Latest estimates show that around 100,000 people are living in the MidCoast in 2025, and this is set to grow by 20% over the next 20 years. Our local area is currently the 26th largest by population in NSW, out of 130 local government areas.

We’re lucky to have the experience and wisdom of an older population here, with 42% of us aged over 60. This compares to the NSW average of 22.5% - which makes sense when you consider where you’d rather spend your retirement.

Our region is home to the Biripi and Worimi people who make up 7.3% of our population – that’s almost double the average for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders in NSW. Aboriginal culture is an intrinsic part of our rich heritage and plays an important part in shaping our future.

It seems our community understand the benefits of giving up their time to help others, with 15.7% of people here (aged 15+) reporting doing some kind of voluntary work. Sitting slightly higher than the rest of the state, by all accounts it makes us a happier community.

We’re a culturally diverse community, with 10.1% of us born overseas. While this is considerably lower than the state average of almost 30%, multiculturalism makes our communities stronger, more vibrant, and inclusive.
