From 13 November 2023 until Sunday 4 February 2024, community engagement took place in seven locations across the MidCoast: Bulahdelah, Gloucester, Krambach, Nabiac, Stroud, Tea Gardens and Wingham. Thank you to everyone who took part in the engagement.

There were some common themes raised across all the locations. This snapshot provides a brief overview of the overall response from the MidCoast communities consulted.

How you had your say

What you told us

  • Swimming pools are very important social, recreational, sporting, health and cultural community hubs. They provide a large range of benefits and contribute significantly to liveability for our communities

  • Daylight saving hours is not appropriate for all pool seasons and locations. The community wants us to align better with local climate conditions and with NSW school holiday periods

  • Keeping some daytime hours is important. People use the pool in daytime for rehabilitation and quiet or lap swimming

  • Affordability of the entry fee is important, especially for families

  • At some locations, many people wanted no changes to be made to pool hours

  • The community should have been consulted earlier in the swimming pool review process. People are very upset about this

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and live, the Gathang-speaking people and pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who now reside in the MidCoast Council area. We extend our respect to elders past and present, and to all future cultural-knowledge holders.
