Overview

A $600,767 upgrade is planned for Tea Gardens Library.

Key features of the project include:

  • 97m² extension to provide a meeting and events space which will act as a study area when not in use
  • amenities upgrade
  • access ramp upgrade
  • new carpet
  • self-serve technology
  • local history alcove

This project is funded by a Public Libraries Infrastructure Grant and State Library of NSW Local Special Projects Funding.

A small community donation was given to contribute to a new local history alcove in the library.

Timeline

  • Timeline item 1 - complete

    Mid 2024

    The building design has received DA and construction certificate approvals, and the project is now out for tender.Council anticipate a builder contract to be in place by the end of 2024, and works to commence early 2025.

  • Timeline item 2 - complete

    April 2025

    The Tea Gardens Library construction tenders have been assessed and a main contractor appointed. The “Pioneer Poles” located near the Tea Gardens Library were recently repositioned to make way for the library extension.

  • Timeline item 3 - active

    May 2025

    Works begin

    It is anticipated Council's main contractor MRW Building will commence work on the library extension 12 May, weather permitting. While works are in progress all efforts are being made to reduce the impact on Tea Gardens members.

    June 2025

    Pop Up Library

    The library will close during the upgrade works for approximately five weeks from end of June 2025. There will be a temporary Pop Up Library in the Council Customer Service Point across the road from Tea Gardens Library during the closure. The pop-up library will have a small selection of titles to borrow and be available for reservation pick-up. There will be no programs running during this time.

    July 2025

    It is anticipated that the Tea Gardens Library will re-open at the end of July 2025, weather permitting.
