Life in the river isn’t what it used to be,

Are YOU aware of the past sanctuary?

Why it isn’t that way anymore?`

What YOU’RE at fault for?

Anything YOUR kind has done?

What creatures YOU’VE shun?

Gone from THEIR home,

These animals can no longer roam.

The river flowed beautifully,

The river moved carefully and gracefully,

The river was a haven, safe as could be,

The river was natural and all so free,

The river was where animals once would come and go,

The river was a place free of stress and woe,

The river was loved by all,

Too bad it had to fall.

Now it can barely flow,

Now rubbish blocks it and makes it slow,

Now sludge is one with the water,

Now they beg you to realise it’s a worthy matter,

Now this will affect your health,

Now there’s microplastics in what makes your wealth.

Are all these “advancements” worth the mass loss?

Should we give up and give the rivers a toss?

Or can life in the river return to what it used to be?
