OVERVIEW

The Wingham Racecourse master plan guides how the site will be developed in the future and was designed in consultation with current key user groups including Manning Model Aero Club, Mid North Coast First Person View and Wingham Cricket Club.

The plan proposes that the original race track be converted to a walking track, which will be a main feature for the precinct. Areas outside the racecourse walk will be public space, accessible to all. Inside the racecourse walk will be more formalised areas, bookable with Council.

Implementation and delivery of the plan will be dependent on external funding to deliver works through a staged approach.

Exhibition period

The draft master plan was on public exhibition for community feedback from 21 July - 24 August 2023. We received 78 formal submissions.

The feedback received from the community was considered and some changes were made to the draft plan.

The master plan was adopted by the elected Council at the 28 February 2024 Ordinary Meeting.

Community feedback

The feedback from the submissions was mainly supportive of the existing plan. Other feedback related to the inclusion of more family friendly features, the inclusion of an equestrian centre, a motorsport facility, commercial activities, additional space for overnight stays, additional picnic/bench seating and the expansion of sporting fields to support current demand and overflow from Wingham Sporting Complex. Several submissions also discussed environmental considerations.

Changes in response to submissions

Based on the feedback received the following changes and have been made to the plan:

  • additional picnic/bench seating has been incorporated into the final master plan
  • sporting fields expansion will be incorporated in consultation with current user groups.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and live, the Gathang-speaking people and pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who now reside in the MidCoast Council area. We extend our respect to elders past and present, and to all future cultural-knowledge holders.
