flood Damaged bridges

While we’d prefer to replace both bridges with higher, more flood-resilient structures, these projects are usually funded on a like-for-like basis which may limit us to rebuilding at the current levels and alignments. We’ll keep pushing for betterment funding so the bridges can be rebuilt higher and help prevent future impacts.

  • The Bight Bridge, Wingham

    Initial investigations have revealed The Bight Bridge will likely not be operational again until 2028 or 2029.

    MidCoast Council is striving to cut that date back by streamlining the design and planning stages and working closely with the State and Federal Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

  • Tiri Bridge, Tiri

    The preferred option for Tiri Bridge includes the installation of a temporary timber bridge and replacement with a new concrete bridge.

    Ongoing structural assesments are being carried out to determine the integrity of the remaining piers.

    The road connection between the MidCoast and the New England has been reestablished.
