Road works update

From road side mowing to pothole patching, find out where our crews will be working over the next two weeks, weather dependent.

A break down of our 3,600km road network

Our road network is the second largest in NSW. Managing such a large network with a relatively small population requires investing our limited funding wisely.

Roads recovery

Our roads and bridges suffered significant damage during the May 2025 floods, with more than 21,000 defects recorded.

Management and funding

Under the Civil Liability Act 2002, council responsibilities are limited by the financial and other resources reasonably available.
  • Council responsibilities

    • The level of service for public roads
    • The standard of road construction

These decisions are based on what the council can sustain over the long term

  • Working with government partners

To improve our roads, we work with State and Federal Government to secure grant funding to upgrade roads that connect our communities.

  • Repair prioritisation

Council operates within a finite budget and must prioritise repairs based on risk, traffic volumes, and available funding.

  • Pothole patching

Temporary patching, while not ideal, is often the only immediate measure to reduce danger until a more permanent reconstruction can be scheduled.
